The blast caused by this 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck in Washington State was heard for many miles around. It happened 30 years ago, and it’s still remembered because it set off a huge landslide exposing the superheated core of the volcano. Entire forests were flattened by the blast’s pressure wave, 57 people died and the erupting ash was deposited across 11 states. Take a look at that horrible event that happened in 1980 after the jump. |
